    Rebekah Shrestha

    Schocken Family CEO

    Rebekah brings more than 20 years of experience in strategy, innovation, and community engagement, previously serving as Chief Innovation Officer at the 92nd Street Y, New York (92NY) —a 150-year-old Jewish community and cultural center that reaches more than 700,000 people annually in person and over 55 million virtually. At 92NY, she led programs such as Share Our America, a national initiative to rebuild trust and bridge divides through dialogue and community engagement, and Uptide, the first accelerator for community building non-profits. She also founded and led 92NY’s Office of Strategic Planning. Before joining 92NY, Rebekah held leadership roles at McKinsey & Company, Purpose, and Obama for America.

    Rebekah earned a Masters degree in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a Bachelors in Communication Studies from UCLA. She currently serves as the Chair of the Advisory Committee at 92NY’s Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact, on the Women’s Council of Understood.org, and as a founding judge for the Anthem Awards. Her work has been featured in Forbes, USA Today, and Salon.

    In addition to her professional role, Rebekah volunteers with Crisis Text Line and serves as a mentor for the Women inPower fellowship and with UW’s Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship. A Seattle native, she enjoys trying new restaurants and exploring the city with her husband and two young children.

    Kristin brings more than 20 years of experience in human services and housing, previously serving as Director of Homeless Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher programs at King County Housing Authority. She led initiatives to create innovative supportive housing and public private partnerships to reduce homelessness and create successful programs with local human service non-profits that directly address the root causes of poverty across King County.  Before joining KCHA, Kristin worked for Abt Global, applying her technical assistance and qualitative analysis skills to assist local and national organizations achieve their social impact goals.   

    Kristin earned a master’s in public policy from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Vassar College. She currently serves on the board of Community Roots Housing, and has been recognized with the Heart of a Social Worker award from the Veteran’s Administration for her work to end veteran homelessness in King County.  

    In addition to her professional role, Kristin is active with Welcome NST, a non-profit that engages volunteers to welcome refugees to the United States. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and two dogs, and is training to become a certified yoga instructor.

    Lisa is responsible for the fundraising and marketing functions of JFS. She leads a team that engages the Board of Directors and a generous philanthropic community in a partnership to serve vulnerable individuals and families in the Puget Sound region. 

    Lisa has more than 20 years’ experience in development, volunteer engagement, and management in the nonprofit sector, and has been in her current role since 2005. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College and a Master of Public Administration from Seattle University. She enjoys reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family.

    Michelle Matheson brings more than 20 years of experience in Finance and Accounting, previously serving as an auditor or in financial leadership at various organizations.  She has specialized in serving not-for-profit organizations and government entities of all sizes and sectors throughout her career.
    Michelle earned a degree in Communication Studies from Northwestern University and has completed her CPA license.  

    In addition to her professional role, Michelle has served on several not-for-profit boards and is passionate about preventing domestic violence and supporting survivors. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family.

    Galit is responsible for the Human Resources functions of the agency and is passionate about shaping an organizational culture that centers staff engagement, well-being, and belonging.   

    Prior to joining JFS in 2014, Galit held a variety of nonprofit fundraising and leadership roles, including Development and Operations Director at Hillel UW and was responsible for corporate recruiting and business development at Robert Half International. 

    Galit is a graduate of the University of Washington where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with minors in Marketing and Human Resources, and a Certificate in Fundraising Management. She holds credentials as a Senior Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) with the HR Certification Institute. Galit is a recipient of the Pamela Waechter Jewish Communal Professional Award from the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.  

    Outside of work, Galit enjoys traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.

    Griff is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direct oversight to all client services. This includes ensuring programs deliver a comprehensive suite of high-quality, integrated, and trauma-informed services. Griff also continually assesses JFS’s suite of programming, seeking opportunities to enhance client impact and meet community needs.  

    Griff has served in six different roles over 17 years at JFS. Prior to his current role, Griff served as Director of Strategy, Data, & Performance. Griff spent his first six years at JFS working in the Refugee & Immigrant Services program. He started as an AmeriCorps service member, coordinating volunteers and furniture donations.  

    Griff received his Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Whitman College and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington. 

  • Amie Newman

    Amie has more than 30 years of experience as a storyteller, strategic and creative communications professional for social good, mission-driven organizations, former journalist, and seasoned writer and editor.

    Before joining JFS, Amie had a long career in women’s health, spanning journalism, writing, editing, and advocacy. Amie was the Managing Editor for the award-winning reproductive health and rights publication Rewire News (formerly RH Reality Check) and served as the editor for the Gates Foundation’s Impatient Optimists blog, where she also led communications campaigns to support global health efforts. Amie was also a staff writer for the online platform Our Bodies Ourselves and, as an independent communications consultant, worked with global foundations including the International Women’s Media Foundation, Foundation for a Just Society, NoVo Foundation, and the Marguerite Casey Foundation.

    Amie earned a BA from New York University and a Certificate in Documentary Filmmaking from the University of Washington. Her writing has been cited or published in numerous books on reproductive rights, childbirth, violence against women, and public health.

    In addition to her professional role, Amie is passionate about uplifting the voices of women of all backgrounds and identities, serves on the Global Advisory Board for World Pulse, and is currently working on an anthology of midlife women’s health experiences, as well as a documentary.  Outside of work, Amie enjoys teaching herself how to play the guitar, yoga, music, films, and spending time in the woods and mountains. She is an extremely proud mother of two brilliant people.
