Join JFS Jewish educator Beth Huppin for this three-week class preceding the Jewish holiday of Tisha B’Av, the day in which Jews remember the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. Traditional texts describe the time leading up to this destruction as a period of extreme suffering from internal power inequalities and humiliations. They describe painful misunderstandings and divisions as the true cause of the destruction. Jewish sages called this behavior “senseless hatred.”
What might we learn from examining texts related to Tisha B’Av to help us understand and heal our society today? No previous knowledge required. All are welcome, and each class will stand on its own.
