The Haggadah tells of four children: first, the Wise Child – the Chacham, then the Rebellious – Rasha, followed by the Innocent Child – the Tam, and finally the the child who doesn’t know how to ask – She’eyno Yode’ah Li’shol. The unfolding scene involving these four archetypes plays a pivotal role in the theater of the Seder. But who are they actually? What do they represent? How are we to respond to them? And what of the fifth child – the one who is not there?
