Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

ASIST is founded on the principle that everyone can make a difference in preventing suicide. This is a two-day, interactive workshop where participants learn to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. During the workshop, participants will learn to do the following:

  • Understand how personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions.
  • Provide guidance to people in ways that meet their individual safety needs.
  • Identify key elements of effective suicide safety plans and actions required to implement it.
  • See the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community.
  • Recognize other key aspects of suicide prevention, including life-promotion and self-care.
