Project DVORA (Domestic Violence Outreach, Response & Advocacy)
Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive behaviors used to gain and maintain power and control over an intimate partner. It may include threats, intimidation, emotional or sexual abuse, economic control, isolation, or physical violence.
As a community, it is our responsibility to protect our members so that each one of us can truly live in peace without fear and threat of violence. Project DVORA (Domestic Violence Outreach, Response & Advocacy) seeks to create the conditions in the Jewish community to support loving, safe and respectful relationships; and build the capacity in the community to respond to domestic abuse. To that end, we offer the following services:
OUTREACH
- Consultation, training and materials to rabbis and Jewish communal professionals
- Educational workshops and presentations for schools, synagogues and other organizations
- Community networking, organizing and resource-sharing
- Youth education about healthy relationships and preventing dating violence
RESPONSE
- Assistance to families and friends of survivors, as well as to Jewish organizations, regarding how to address and cope with domestic violence situations
- Consultation to providers of domestic violence services about the particular needs of Jewish families
- Support groups for Jewish women with controlling partners
- Jewish healing rituals for women who have experienced abuse from an intimate partner
- Kids’ Club: a 12-week curriculum to support children who have witnessed domestic violence (download a brochure)
