Current Volunteer Opportunities
To volunteer for any of the projects below, please contact Jane Deer-Hileman, Director of Volunteer Services at (206) 861-3155 or via e-mail.
Glean Produce at the Market
We need your help this season! Twice monthly from June through October, volunteers are needed to collect extra produce from the Broadway Farmers Market and then deliver it to our JFS Polack Food Bank. If you're available on a Sunday afternoon from 2:45 to 4:45 then join in to help provide fresh, nutritious food for our clients and community. Good for individuals and families, with or without a vehicle.
Polack Food Bank Collection
We always need your help to feed the Polack Food Bank that feeds the community! Organize and host a food collection at a grocery store and we'll help with the logistics. Call for other ideas to help raise food for the Polack Food Bank. Click Here to get the most recent facts and figures about our food bank.
Bellevue ESL Class Assistants & Tutors
We are seeking volunteer assistants for ESL classes in our Bellevue office Monday through Thursday. Various class times are available. We also need volunteers who can lead classes on their own or are willing to tutor students after class, weekends or evenings. Don't miss out on a chance to teach and learn from others!
Driver for Deliveries
Volunteer to be on our on-call list, pick up and deliver centerpiece baskets and food donations to local congregations. The schedule is flexible and you may use your own vehicle or possibly drive our agency van. The Polack Food Bank relies on the funds raised by the Basket Program and food collected by our community partners to serve the community all year 'round.
Home Delivery Needs You!
Volunteers are needed to make regular monthly home deliveries of food. Each volunteer delivers groceries to a small group of clients; this requires driving your own vehicle and coming to JFS to pick-up the groceries. Help feed people who can't get to the Polack Food Bank. It's very rewarding and most volunteers stick with it for years.
Big Pals
New boys have signed up as Little Pals, so we are now seeking new Big Pals! Enjoy recreational activities at least once a month with your Little Pal and/or attend our quarterly group events, such as trips to the zoo, sporting events and other group outings. Requires a one year commitment, but we hope you make a pal for life.
Kent Family Mentors
Seeking volunteer mentors with transportation to help new immigrant families in Kent. Mentors help with ESL, job coaching and orientation to the local area. Some of these families are headed by single mothers and all families need a weekly mentor for support.
Friendly Visitors
We are seeking visitors for a woman in Northgate, a man in Everett and a senior man at the Summit. We are always entering new seniors and other clients who would like a visitor. If you can visit someone at least every other week, please call.
Other Ways to Volunteer
Call to discuss family and/or group volunteer projects and other ways to help such as child care, deliveries, office work, special event help, planting veggie starts for the JFS Polack Food Bank and more!
