Bellevue ESL Class Assistants and Tutors

We are seeking volunteer assistants for ESL classes in our Bellevue office Mondays through Thursdays. We also seek volunteers who can lead classes on their own, or are willing to tutor students weekends or evenings. We also always welcome volunteers in the Kent area to help our refugee resettlement program, in the areas of mentoring, tutoring and housing set-up. Schedules are very flexible for these positions.

Kent Family Mentors

Also seeking volunteer mentors and drivers to help new immigrant families in the Kent and Tukwila area weekdays and weekends. Mentors help with ESL, job coaching and orientation to the local area. Some of these families are headed by single mothers, and need a weekly mentor for support.

Kent intern

We are looking for an intern who will engage in one-on-one mentoring, and also in the organization and implementation of workshops and support groups for women who are the sole providers in refugee families.

Friendly Visitors
We are currently seeking volunteers to make the following visits: a young male client in downtown Seattle who needs someone to accompany him on walks, and a young male client in a Greenwood area nursing home. We are always entering new seniors and other clients, so if you can visit someone at least every other week, please call.

Big Pals
We are currently seeking a Big Pal for a pre-teen boy living south of Seattle, and a younger boy in Bellevue. Enjoy recreational activities at least once a month with your Little Pal and/or attend our quarterly group events, such as trips to the zoo, sports events, and other group outings. Requires a one year commitment, but we hope you make a pal for life.

Home Delivery
Several volunteers are needed to make regular monthly home grocery deliveries. Each volunteer delivers to a small group of clients; this requires driving your car and coming to JFS to pick up the groceries. Help feed people who can't get out to the food bank. It's very rewarding and most volunteers stick with it for years.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
Help at Sunday FLE or Shaarei Tikvah events or be on-call for special assignments. Call to find out about Food Bank shifts.
