Domestic Violence Outreach, Response & Advocacy

Project DVORA strives to create the conditions in the Jewish community to support loving, safe, and respectful relationships; and to build the capacity in the community to respond to intimate partner violence. Our services include:

Advocacy-Based Counseling

  • One-on-one sessions focused on safety planning and empowerment. Our goal is to reinforce autonomy and self-determination.
  • Assistance and education in navigating systems, including:
    • Legal (protection orders and family law, including parenting plans and divorce)
    • Housing
    • Financial
    • Public Benefits
    • Mental Health
  • Client-centered flexible financial assistance to help remove barriers to safety.
  • Work with rabbis and communities to remove barriers to spiritual safety.

Resilience-Building Groups for Individuals and Families

Opportunities for social support, as well as cultivating a sense of meaning, purpose and control. We offer groups one at a time, each lasting for several weeks and focusing on a specific theme.  We determine group themes based on current client interest. Our offerings may include:

  • Family Group that teaches resilience and strengthens relationships
  • Mother/Daughter
  • Creativity & Healing (Art, Writing, Theater)
  • “Speaking & Writing for Change,” a social action group
  • Yoga, Mindfulness & Meditation
  • Yoga for Resilience & Compassion

 Gender-Based Violence Prevention Education

We offer educational opportunities to:

  • Jewish schools
  • Youth programs
  • Trainings for professionals and community members
  • Case-specific consultation with rabbis, friends, teachers, community leaders and families
