As we age there is a good possibility that we will have chronic pain which impacts the quality of our lives and costs the health care system billions of dollars. Dr. Gordon Irving, Medical Director of Swedish Pain and Headache Center, will review the neurophysiological changes that occur with chronic pain and explore these questions: What role does the brain play in both treating and enhancing pain? How is long lasting acute pain different from chronic pain?
