Accomplishments

The JFS Board launched the Family Matters Campaign in 2006 to deepen the impact of existing programs and to address previously unmet needs. Extraordinary early support from over 150 donors is already hard at work and has seeded several new initiatives including:

Alternatives to Addiction - the first program of its kind in our Jewish community, ATA helps Jews struggling with the disease of addiction in a culturally relevant context.

• A Polack Food Bank home delivery program that delivers groceries each month to nearly 400 households affected by old age, mental illness and disability.

• The Agency's first ever after-hours crisis support for clients of JFS Counseling Services and Alternatives to Addiction.

Endless Opportunities, developed in partnership with Temple De Hirsch Sinai (now also includes Temple B'nai Torah), facilitates a wide variety of meaningful connections to community for healthy, active adults age 60+.

• Expanded Family Life Education programs on today's topical issues such as the current economic crisis, parenting for LGBT families, interfaith couples and caring for aging parents.

• A Russian Speaking Social Worker has been added to the staff to better serve the large number of immigrants from the former Soviet Union who come to JFS.

• An additional Project DVORA Advocate (half time) has hired to meet the increased demand for services from community members who are victims of domestic abuse.

"Thank you for treating me with respect; and for cheering me on when my life finally turned around and stabilized. I'll always remember you."
