Alternatives to Addiction
Addiction is often overlooked, especially in the Jewish community. Neglecting the problem doesn’t make it go away. Our Jewish friends, family and loved ones must know that no one has to face it alone.
The JFS Alternatives to Addiction Program is designed specifically to increase awareness, further understanding and, at the same time, offer a culturally sensitive response to the disease of addiction within the Jewish community.
This unique program, supervised by the JFS Chemical Dependency Specialist (who is also a recovering alcoholic), provides confidential, supportive assistance to those of every age who are struggling with addiction -- helping access the appropriate spiritual, social and / or medical services. Whether you are trying to determine if a problem exists, looking for direction on the path to healing and recovery, or are already in recovery and looking for a Jewish connection, help is just a phone call away through:
- Outreach & education services for community, synagogues, schools & the unaffiliated
- Support for those in recovery
- Clinical services within a culturally sensitive context (including thorough assessment, intervention & individual or family counseling)
- Advocacy that is family-centered & supportive
Close to 3,000 people in our local Jewish “family” have already been identified as potential clients who could benefit from these services. Imagine this many people who are actively in addiction, and then add their circle of loved ones and friends. This truly is a family disease that is impacting more and more of us in the Greater Seattle area than ever before. The toll is devastating.
The JFS Alternatives to Addiction Program, provided on a fee-for-service basis, is offered at both our Seattle and Bellevue offices. In addition to daytime hours, we offer late afternoon and evening appointments for your convenience. JFS participates in several insurance programs. Our Intake Specialist can help determine your level of insurance coverage. We offer subsidized sliding fee scale for those requiring financial assistance.
The Alternatives to Addiction Program of Jewish Family Service is made possible through the generous commitment to community by The Kenneth and Marleen Alhadeff Charitable Foundation, the Special Initiatives Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and the Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound.
