Burials, Funerals and Cemeteries: Jewish traditions and practical concerns
Burials, Funerals and Cemeteries: Jewish traditions and practical concerns
Session 3: Burials, Funerals and Cemeteries: Jewish traditions and practical concerns In Jewish tradition, funerals take place just days after a person passes away. What is done during aninut, the period between a person's death and burial? What is the role of the chevra kadisha, or burial society? How must a body be prepared for burial? What practical information do you need to know about caskets, cemeteries and other funeral preparations? With Ross Kling of the Seattle Jewish Chapel. March 3 7:00-9:00 p.m. Held at Temple De Hirsch Sinai 1530 East Union, Seattle Participants are welcome to attend one, several, or all of the workshops in the series. $10/person for individual sessions; $36/person for all four sessions. Scholarships are available. Advance registration required. Contact Emily Harris-Shears, (206) 861-8784 or familylife@jfsseattle.org. Co-sponsored by Jewish Family Service and Temple De Hirsch Sinai. Maintaining Dignity: Balancing Parents' Safety and Independence in Life
Maintaining Dignity: Balancing Parents' Safety and Independence in Life
Maintaining Dignity: Balancing Parents' Safety and Independence in Life Part of the "Caring for Our Aging Parents" series It can be challenging to care for parents as they age and need more of your support. Parents may insist upon driving despite safety concerns, or refuse to take vital medication. They may want to remain in their multi-story home although they have great difficulty going up and down stairs. Gain perspective on how to maintain respect for your parents' dignity and independence, while you also look out for their safety. Monday, March 8 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Held at the Seattle Kollel, 5305 52nd Ave S., Seattle Advance registration encouraged. $10/person. Scholarships are available; please ask if interested. Contact Marjorie Schnyder at (206) 861-3146 or familylife@jfsseattle.org Co-sponsored by Bikur Cholim Machzikay Hadath Congregation, Seattle Kollel, Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation and Congregation Ezra Bessaroth.
